What Are Your Options to Charge Your EV?
Whether you already own an electric vehicle (EV) or are considering purchasing one, charging is an important part of the process. Learn more about the charging alternatives available and receive assistance selecting and installing the ideal charging station for your house.
There are three types of charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs): Level 1, Level 2 and Direct Current:
Level 1
A Level 1 charging cord is included with all plug-in vehicles and may be plugged straight into a typical household 120-volt outlet. Charging takes a little longer at this level — about 5 miles of range per hour of charging—but it’s plenty for most daily commutes. If you have a short commute, drive a plug-in hybrid like the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid, have access to workplace charging, or can charge your vehicle for 8 hours or more each night, this ready-to-go option might be suitable for you.
Level 2
A professionally built charging station that can be hard-wired or a cord set compatible with a 240-volt outlet which is required for Level 2 charging. Charging at this level is quicker, with ranges ranging from 12 to 80 miles per hour. Our expert electricians will help you find rebates for Level 2 charging stations if you qualify. If you drive an electric vehicle, such as a Tesla Model 3, Level 2 may be the best option because these vehicles have larger batteries that require longer charging times. Level 2 charging stations are recommended for drivers who have longer commutes or who prefer a faster charge or a greater electric driving range.
DC Charging
Several public charging stations offer DC Fast Charging. It’s the most frequent charge level, with up to 40 miles of range for every 10 minutes of charging. These stations are not appropriate for household installation due to their high cost.
